FAQ
Proactive VS. Reactive methods of environmental stewardship. Primary rig containment system (RCS).
Where does your company fit?
Proactive
- The proactive approach can provide companies with varying levels of practical environmental assurances.
- A proactive approach is a fiscally sound method that has long lasting benefits when problems invariably arise.
- This method helps to eliminate costly remediation process (Spill Clean Up).
- Affects the bottom line for direct costs of actual on the ground time but also the indirect cost of Public Relations to repair company image when spills occur.
- When included in the well planning process, the costs associated with spills and remediation is clearly defined.
- Our systems contain the spill and all fluids are recovered without contamination, these fluids can then be reused or disposed of properly.
- We are fortunate to report that through the proactive methodology, companies have achieved the positive result of “Zero Environmental Contamination”.
- Through this method, costs have remained constant.
Reactive
- In a reactive scenario, the oil companies may elect to restrict spending on preventative measures in the hopes that there will be no spill.
- Once the spill occurs, funds are spent according to the size of the spill and its relative sensitivity.
- When a spill occurs at a site usually less than 100 BBLs, it must be reported and then the remediation process begins. These are the direct costs associated with spill clean up.
- If it’s a large spill or one in a sensitive area the oil and gas exploration company may also have to contend with spending funds associated with repairing their image. These are the indirect costs.
- When a spill occurs, the bulk of the clean up has to wait until the rig has finished drilling and moved off location. This delay allow the contaminant to migrate deeper into the terrain, causing increased remediation costs, as well as the costs associated with lost fluids (drilling fluids are primarily the largest expense $1,000 per m3)
- The reactive method will eventually be a thing of the past. With more and more companies interested in their environmental footprint as well as means to save revenues.
